Beginning in early 2021, UNCG’s telephone services for faculty and staff began moving from the Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) platform to Microsoft Teams Voice. Teams Voice is a calling feature of Microsoft Teams that enables users to place and receive external phone calls through a computer or a Teams telephone.
The move modernized UNCG’s telephone system to a fully mobile solution that is accessible from any device in any location with an internet connection. The University agreed to change the voice services funding model to be an institutional expense. This brought cost efficiencies to the University and significant savings to the departments.
Expected cost of the project is $240,000 which will realize an estimated cost savings of $600,000 per year.
