NextGen Website Update

Moving out our dates to the summer – the final date will be the summer of 2024. We have had initial conversations with a vendor to give departments assistance in migration.

  • Updated Sites
    • We push out changes to the theme biweekly.
    • We released a new block for employee directory
    • The previous block built by our vendor had performance issues.
    • The new block increases the performance and is built with funnel-back features to enhance the search
  • Host migration
    • We’ve been using FlyWheel as our cloud vendor for about 5 years.
    • We moved to WPEngine
      • Automatic theme and plugin updates
        • Closes security vulnerabilities
        • Started migrations in June
          • Had to pause due to pho issues on their side
    • October
      • Had to pause due to a vendor issue
      • Has been resolved
    • We have 175 sites on WPEngine.
  • Content Audit Schedule Adjustment
    • Sherri reviewed the scheduled changes we are working towards
  • Degree and Programs Conversation
    • This will be similar but will have a different schedule than the Content Audits
    • Separate Schedule from Content Audit
  • Faculty Websites
    • We are hoping the Directory Profile satisfies the need for a separate faculty member’s website.
    • Chris has had a good discussion with Mike Dickens (Bryan School) regarding this.
    • We are looking at central repositories for faculty publications
    • Jaap-Jan asked how we assess the needs of faculty across disciplines.
      • It’s assessed based on usage in the past.
      • Would like to use one platform across the faculty community
      • We can ask for time to provide demos of solutions and solicit feedback of what is needed.

ADA

Melanie Ely reviewed changes made by the Federal Government. The proposal came out in early August and had about two months to review. We had a 12-member committee that responded to several questions asked. We focused on certain areas of the document and provided responses. We submitted the document to the government on October 3.

The most concerning were

  • Adopt technical standards
  • 3rd party content
  • Password protection.

Policies

  • Privacy Policy should be completed soon – hopefully by the next WAMO meeting.
