Topic: Multifactor Authentication

Context: There are explicit questions around the impacts of requiring MFA for access to campus technology services that need to be answered for our students, faculty and staff. Critical questions include: Can the university require faculty and staff to use their personal mobile device as a second factor for MFA? Does the use of a personal device for MFA subject the device to legal discovery requirements? Will the University approve MCD allowances and/or the purchase of additional devices explicitly for use with MFA.

Decision: Recommendations will be brought to the next full Chancellor’s Council meeting for discussion and development of a University response to these questions.
