May 16, 2023 Data Stewards Meeting

Posted on July 20, 2023

  • Update from Mike Daly of rpk Group on the progress of their Course and Academic Program dashboards in support of the Chancellor’s and Provost’s task forces.
  • New Code Requests:
    • New Student Attribute for Full Honors (Global & Disciplinary) – HSGD.
      • This code was approved for implementation.
    • New Student Cohort for ReUp Stop Out Program – REUP[TERMCODE].
      • This code was approved for implementation.
  • Review of Name Data and Gender Data Standards recommended requirements.
    • Questions arose regarding the legal values of M, F, X collection and use
      • Sex and Gender are protected classes under the Civil Rights Act and collection and use must be clearly defined and restricted to need.
      • Sex and Gender are often conflated. “Sex” refers to an individual’s legally documented sex, which is often assigned at birth. “Gender” refers to an individual’s personal experience of their gender identity and expression. “Gender” is not always the same as an individual’s legal sex.
    • After a brief discussion, these draft documents were approved to move forward to the Data Trustees committee for review and development.
  • Data Quality issue identified – separated employees show incorrectly in Microsoft Active Directory.
    • HR is working with ITS to resolve the issue.
  • Solution defined for handling term-based CIP code changes in Banner
    • SWACIPC is a UNCSO developed form/table which provides curricular information, including CIP codes, to the Student Data Mart (SDM) system. Because it can be used in a term-based fashion, it is recommended for improving accuracy in CIP code reporting over the baseline STVMAJR, which is not term-based.
    • STVMAJR is a required form/table for certain processes and will be kept in alignment with SWACIPC.
    • Code changes in SDM and National Student Clearinghouse reporting will require ITS resources to achieve.
  • COVID Leave expired March 31, 2023. Unused COVID leave has been cleaned up by HR. Anyone with concerns or questions about available leave balances, please contact HR.
  • Request to reinstate an automated clean-up job in Banner for certain temporary tables.
    • This request was approved for the identified target tables.
  • Announcements
    • Collibra Kick-off events
      • In person on June 7 at the Alumni House
      • Virtual events June 14 and 15 via Teams
    • A standing run-off meeting will be scheduled for the Data Stewards for the first Friday of every month to accommodate agenda overflow. This meeting will be canceled if there are no agenda items.
