The Data Governance Committees are charged with developing and managing UNCG’s data strategy and implementing institutional data management best practices, standards, and policies.

The Data Governance Committees are made up of the Data Trustees and the Data Stewards, who are charged with developing and managing UNCG’s data strategy and implementing institutional data management best practices, standards, and policies.  The data strategy is a comprehensive vision and road map for collecting, managing, sharing, and using institutional data.  Best practice data management is designed to ensure the accuracy, consistency, trustworthiness, usability, security, and accessibility of UNCG’s data assets.

Data Governance members actively engage with the Institutional Research & Enterprise Data Management team, other Information Technology Services partners, and fellow Data Governance members to:

  • collaboratively define a set of institution wide rules in the form of policies, standards, requirements, guidelines, data definitions, and training that comprise the Enterprise Data Governance Program,
  • ensure that the data sets under their authority are managed in compliance with the Enterprise Data Governance Program, resolve known data-related issues, and
  • proactively stop data-related problems before they begin.

Data Governance members are authorized to make campus-wide rules and key decisions regarding the treatment of institutional data and empowered to enforce the Enterprise Data Governance Program.
